Ubisoft has announced Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege X, pitched as the most significant update in the game’s history, is set to launch on 11 June 2025 as a free update. The update will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC (including Steam), and Amazon Luna.
A key feature of Siege X is Dual Front, a new 6v6 mode that introduces fresh tactical gameplay. Players must secure three enemy sectors while defending their own on District, a map designed exclusively for this mode. For the first time in the series, Attackers and Defenders can be selected together from a curated roster of 35 operators, allowing for new strategic combinations.
Throughout matches, players can enter the Neutral Sector to complete time-limited assignments for rewards that can shift the tide of battle. However, venturing into these zones requires strategic risk assessment, as it could leave key positions exposed to the opposing team. Dual Front also introduces respawning and the ability to repick operators mid-match, making the mode more accessible while maintaining Siege’s tactical depth. The mode will receive ongoing updates, with operator rotations occurring twice per season and Neutral Sector assignments changing each season.
Siege X is also set to introduce visual improvements across classic maps, with enhanced lighting, shadows, and up to 4K textures. At launch, Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank, and Kafe will receive these upgrades, with three additional modernised maps being added each season. Additionally, the game’s audio system is being overhauled with improved propagation and reverberation, helping players better pinpoint enemy locations based on sound cues.
The update also aims to expand tactical gameplay with new destructible elements, such as fire extinguishers, gas pipes, and metal detectors, creating new strategic opportunities. Rappelling mechanics have been refined to allow for smoother navigation, including horizontal movement and the ability to jump around building corners.
A refreshed onboarding experience will introduce tutorials and field training, making it easier for new players to master the game’s mechanics before jumping into matches. A new communication wheel will also improve team coordination, while an updated Pick and Ban system will allow teams to adapt to enemy strategies more efficiently, with simultaneous bans each round to speed up the process.
Ubisoft is also introducing R6 ShieldGuard, a unified anti-cheat initiative that consolidates existing security measures while adding live security updates to combat cheating without the need for scheduled maintenance. Improvements to anti-toxicity features, including a refined reputation system, will also be implemented.
Starting 11 June, Rainbow Six Siege will be free to access. New players will have free access to Dual Front, Unranked, and Quick Play modes, with the opportunity to unlock up to 26 operators through progression. Those who upgrade to premium editions will gain access to Ranked Mode and Siege Cup upon reaching level 50, along with immediate access to additional operators. Existing players will retain all unlocked content, including operators, inventory, and progression, and will receive exclusive veteran rewards based on when they joined the game.
