Crunchyroll has released a new trailer for the upcoming anime Nyaight of the Living Cat, a post-apocalyptic comedy directed by Takashi Miike. The series is set to stream exclusively on Crunchyroll worldwide, excluding Asia, in July 2025, with Sony Pictures Entertainment handling distribution in Asia and Japan.
Based on the manga Night of the Living Cat, written by Hawkman and illustrated by Mecha-Roots, the series presents a world overrun by cats due to a mysterious virus. Anyone who touches a cat is transformed into one, triggering a “nyandemic” that forces humanity to resist the urge to pet the adorable yet infectious felines.
The anime is helmed by executive director Takashi Miike, known for Ichi the Killer, Audition, and 13 Assassins, with Tomohiro Kamitani (MIX MEISEI STORY Season 2) as director. The screenplay is penned by Shingo Irie (Golden Kamuy Season 1), and character designs are handled by Takao Maki (Basilisk: The Ouka Ninja Scrolls). The music is composed by Koji Endo (13 Assassins, Audition), and OLM, the studio behind Pokémon and The Apothecary Diaries, is producing the animation.
The Japanese voice cast is set to include:
- Masaaki Mizunaka (Classroom of the Elite) as Kunagi, a cat café employee with amnesia and superhuman abilities.
- Reina Ueda (Solo Leveling) as Kaoru, a high school student working at her brother’s cat café.
- Reiji Kawashima (To Your Eternity) as Arata, a former track athlete and university student obsessed with ninjas.
- Yu Serizawa (Rent-A-Girlfriend) as Tsutsumi, Kaoru’s classmate who is allergic to cats.
- Subaru Kimura (JUJUTSU KAISEN) as Len Ward, a physically strong member of a legendary family known for resisting cat attacks.
- Yoshiki Nakajima (Dr. STONE) as Masaki Ward, Len’s intelligent and popular younger brother.
- Hiroki Yasumoto (Fairy Tail) as Tanishi, a cat café regular working with Kunagi and Kaoru.
- Ryota Takeuchi (The Ancient Magus’ Bride) as Gaku, Kaoru’s older brother and the owner of “Megokoro Nekome.”
CrunchyRoll has yet to confirm any plans of offering an English dub of this title.
