During this morning’s PlayStation State of Play broadcast, Bandai Namco unveiled Digimon Story Time Stranger, a new JRPG set to launch on PlayStation 5 in 2025. As the latest entry in the Digimon Story series, the game will take players on a journey between the human world and the Digital World, where they will collect and train Digimon to prevent the collapse of reality itself.
Marking the first Digimon Story release in nearly a decade, Time Stranger introduces an entirely new setting while maintaining core elements that fans of the franchise have come to love. The game features an updated battle system, a fresh take on the Digital World, and the return of fan-favourite Digimon such as Agumon and Omnimon in new roles.
Players will build deep bonds with their Digimon partners, impacting both the story and gameplay. Through training, evolution, and customization, each Digimon can grow in multiple ways, allowing for strategic party-building and combat adaptability. The game’s turn-based battles will require careful planning, as enemy encounters and environments will present unpredictable challenges.
Unlike Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth, which primarily took place in cyberspace, Time Stranger introduces a fully realised Digital World where Digimon live independently, running shops, maintaining homes, and engaging in their own daily lives. Players will explore these new environments, take on quests from unique Digimon NPCs, and uncover interactive elements within the Digital World.
While further details on the story and gameplay are yet to be revealed, Bandai Namco has hinted that the game will explore themes of time, fate, and the evolving relationship between humans and Digimon. Digimon Story Time Stranger is set to release in 2025, with more information expected in the coming months.
