Quest Master, the dungeon-creation sandbox adventure developed by Julian Creutz with support from Skydevilpalm and published by Apogee Entertainment, has received a new content expansion with the new Ice Dungeon Update. This marks as the next step in the game’s development timeline, as it prepares for its official 1.0 launch in Spring 2025.
The update introduces Coldfang Grotto, a new icy biome set in the world of Aetheria. Players can design complex dungeons featuring frosty slopes, freezing obstacles, and innovative puzzles. This frozen expanse offers players creative opportunities to test dungeoneers with slippery terrain, brain-teasing challenges, and icy-themed traps.
Key gameplay additions include mechanics tailored for Coldfang Grotto, such as:
- Freezing objects in Maker Mode to create puzzles requiring players to thaw items.
- A freezing boomerang tool that can freeze enemies mid-motion, enabling new puzzle-solving strategies.
- The ability to temporarily freeze water surfaces, providing new traversal and trap-building options.
These features accompany an expanded suite of tiles, traps, and tools that enhance the dungeon-design experience. Players can upload their creations for others to enjoy and explore over 3,000 community-designed dungeons already available.
Additionally, the game’s creative team has confirmed they are aiming to exit Steam Early Access next year, with a major Version 1.0 release. The game’s 1.0 release will also introduce a story-driven Single Player Campaign, allowing players to journey through six elemental dungeons while uncovering the lore of Aetheria. Alongside these handcrafted challenges, the campaign will integrate tools accessible to the community, showcasing how the creative framework can bring an engaging narrative to life. Players will explore Castle Town, interact with unique characters, and work to save the kingdom from corruption.
Julian Creutz, Lead Developer of Quest Master, shared his enthusiasm for the game’s creative community:
Seeing the Quest Master community create over 3,000 dungeons is incredible. It proves that this game has become more than just a dungeon maker—it’s an imagination engine. The creativity and passion of our players in Early Access continues to inspire us as we build the Single Player Campaign into something truly special.
Jeron Moore, Executive Producer at Apogee Entertainment and Game Director of Quest Master, commented on the project’s evolution:
Quest Master bridges the best of classic 16-bit dungeon crawling with tools that unlock endless creative possibilities for players today. The Coldfang Grotto theme expands those possibilities even further, offering new mechanics that make dungeon creation more exciting and imaginative than ever. It’s incredible to see how the community continues to bring these tools to life, and we can’t wait to share what’s next as we build toward 1.0.
