Developer Kitsune Games and publisher MidBoss have announced the launch of Steam Workshop support for their retro-inspired platformer, Kitsune Tails. The game, which draws heavily on Japanese mythology, also features the release of its official soundtrack, and an update bringing new quality-of-life features, including the Steam Workshop support.
With the addition of Steam Workshop support, Kitsune Tails players can now create, share, and play custom levels and minigames designed by the community. This update opens the door to a variety of new experiences, with the developers hoping for everything from intricate kaizo-style challenges to creative minigames that push the limits of the game’s custom engine. The update also introduces a Speedrun Timer feature and a post-game character swap option, following player requests.
For those interested in modding, Kitsune Tails offers resources to get started, with support for the open-source Tiled Map Editor, and Lua scripting support. Mods can be easily uploaded to Steam directly from within the game.
Additionally, the game’s soundtrack, composed by Jorge Saldías, is now available for purchase on Steam for $4.99 (or local equivalent). Players can also opt for the new Deluxe Edition bundle, which includes both the game and the soundtrack for $22.49 (or local equivalent).
Kitsune Tails is currently available on Steam and itch.io, supporting PC, Linux, and Steam Deck platforms. While the itch.io version does not include Steam Workshop integration, it does allow for manual installation of mods.
