Not for Broadcast is easily one of the most unique games I have played so far this decade, featuring an alternate universe with comical but ever-looming dark overtones, political warfare which reflects arguably an extreme personification of both the ‘Left’ and the ‘Right’ – and an audience who are harsh should the National Nightly News broadcast not have the right camera angle at the right moment. This FMV puzzle game has come far since its beginnings, impeded rather quickly by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. But since then the development team at NotGames has rolled out three full chapters spanning nine episodes of the main story, a range of supplementary episodes, and a few DLC chapters. As of now… development has finally concluded.
Publisher tinyBuild and the development team have released Not For Broadcast: Complete Edition for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam – this comprehensive edition featuring all previously released DLCs and the base game. Additionally, it includes the newly released episode ‘The Timeloop’, which serves as the final chapter of the game.
Not For Broadcast: Complete Edition is available today for $39.99 USD, and The Timeloop DLC can be purchased separately for $8.99 USD. The game supports multiple languages, including English, French, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, and Simplified Chinese.
In Not For Broadcast, players take on the role of studio manager, Alex, for the ‘National Nightly News,’ making real-time decisions to manipulate the broadcast in this alternate reality 1980s. Players must manage camera angles, censor content, and carefully edit footage to maintain high ratings and satisfy both the government and advertisers. The game features multiple branching narratives and 14 different endings, allowing players to influence the direction of the story, whether it involves breaking the law, inciting revolution, or hiding scandals.
The Timeloop DLC seeks to offer returning players a fresh experience by adding new challenges and scenarios to the existing game. With new mechanics and live stage footage, it brings back fan-favourite characters for a final, chaotic storyline. Players will have the chance to experience the longest song in FMV history and navigate the complexities of a never-ending time loop, with more than a few twists along the way (my review will be going live soon).
Jay Orbaum, Director at NotGames, has expressed his gratitude for the game’s support over the years as they release their final releases for at least this canon of Not for Broadcast:
There’s no shortage of gratefulness for the love Not For Broadcast has seen over the years. To celebrate this love, we packaged all the previous thought-provoking content with an even wackier DLC so players can say goodbye by hitting the red button to go ‘LIVE’ one final time!
