Akatsuki Games Inc. and Too Kyo Games have released a new Dev Letter detailing survey results and gameplay analytics from the Tribe Nine Global Beta Test, also known as the “Deadly Playtest.” Held in early August, this test involved a select group of players who provided valuable feedback on the upcoming “extreme action RPG” from some of the lead creatives behind the Danganronpa visual novels.
The Dev Letter includes a range of gameplay data and survey results. During the playtest, 94% of players experienced defeat in boss battles, indicating a challenging gameplay environment. Boss battle win rates varied significantly: 76% of players managed to defeat Endrone in Chapter 0, while only 27% succeeded against S.H.A.R.K. in Chapter 1, and a mere 6% prevailed against the final boss, Death Penalty.
The playtest revealed which characters were most commonly used by players. Yo Kuronaka, Tsuki Iroha, and Koishi Kohinata were among the top choices, likely due to their availability early in the game. Even after Chapter 0, Yo Kuronaka remained popular for his easily activated chain skills. Jio Takinogawa was chosen frequently for his high attack power and simple controls, while Minami Oi was valued for her shield-providing abilities.
In terms of character enhancements through the “Potential” system, Miu Jujo, Enoki Yukigaya, and Q were the most enhanced characters. Players focused on maximising the effectiveness of Attackers by boosting their “Fighting Instincts” and enhancing Support characters’ “Passive Skills.” The “Survival Instinct” enhancement was also popular, particularly for characters like Miu Jujo who engage in close combat.
More statistics, for those who love data (like me), can be found via the official Dev Letter. The Tribe Nine team encourages players to stay tuned for further updates as they work towards refining the game based on the insights gained from this beta test.
