Lionwing has announced the launch of a Kickstarter campaign to release an English edition of Kedamono Opera, a dark fairytale tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) originally released by Japanese publisher Arclight. The Kickstarter campaign was asking for $10,000 USD, and with 14 days of the campaign remaining, has already achieved more than double its goal, raising $20,560 USD. If you are keen on backing it, the campaign can be found on Kickstarter now.
Kedamono Opera invites players into a whimsical world where desperate humans seek aid from powerful, immortal monsters known as kedamono. These creatures, however, are driven by their own desires and hunger for human souls, making their assistance anything but guaranteed. Rather than focusing solely on conflict resolution or world-saving, this narrative-driven RPG encourages players to craft stories that can be tragic, comedic, or anywhere in between.
In a departure from traditional role-playing games where you’d expect to play from the perspective of the humans, Kedamono Opera places players in the roles of the kedamono themselves, granting them the power to decide whether to help or hunt those who come to them.
The game, designed by Ikefukuro Ryoma and illustrated by Nagabe, who was the artist for The Girl from the Other Side. If you want to take a gander at what the book will look like upon release, check out some preview pages below:
