Opening This Week: TINA – The Tina Turner Musical at QPAC

Date:

A little over a year after first making its Australian debut at Sydney’s Theatre Royal, TINA – The Tina Turner Musical is set to commence its Brisbane opening at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre’s (QPAC) Lyric Theatre from 29 June 2024. This follows an extended run of Beauty and the Beast the Musical, which ran in the venue for almost four months.

TINA – The Tina Turner Musical is being produced in Australia by Paul Dainty AO and TEG Dainty, in collaboration with Stage Entertainment, Tali Pelmen and the late Tina Turner herself. True to its name, this musical tells the history of Turner as she “dared to defy the bounds of her age, gender and race to become the global Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll”. Weaved within the narrative are 23 of Turner’s songs, including but by no means limited to Simply the Best, What’s Love Got to Do With It, and of course, the song that many Australian’s know the dance to (but don’t always know how they learnt it), Nutbush City Limits.

In terms of casting, TINA – The Tina Turner Musical’s Australian season features Ruva Ngwenya in the role of Tina Turner herself, who debuted with the role from its first performance in Sydney, with the role of Ike Turner to be played by Giovanni Adams, who took over the role back in April 2024 during the production’s Adelaide season. Other principal cast members include Jochebel Ohene MacCarthy (Alternate Tina Turner), Ibinabo Jack (Zelma Bullock), Deni Gordon (Gran Georgeanna), and Nadia Komazec (Rhonda Graam) among others

Ticketing information for both the Brisbane (QPAC) and Melbourne (Princess Theatre) seasons are accessible via the official TINA – The Tina Turner Musical website, with tickets for the former season priced between $69.00 and $229.00 excluding transaction fee.
