In Tenjutsu, players take on the role of a renegade yakuza intent on defying her former associates and loosening their grip on Secret Garden City. Announced during this weekend’s Devolver Direct presentation, Tenjutsu is the latest game, a fast-paced martial arts roguelike, crafted by Sébastien Benard, designer of the acclaimed Dead Cells. The game is currently in development for PC and consoles, with more to be shared in the future.
Secret Garden City is controlled by four powerful crime syndicates, each ruling with an iron fist. To defeat them, players must master a brutal brawling system and build a diverse arsenal of weapons, upgrades, and martial arts techniques, breaking their hold on the streets. As these organisations fall, tackled in any order, the city is reborn. The ruined streets become vibrant and full of life, and resources gathered can be spent in shops and restaurants to aid in your quest… all assuming you can take them down.
Players can shape the city to fit their play style, unlocking new weapons, combat moves, and areas to explore. However, time is of the essence: the longer you spend preparing, the stronger your enemies will become.
