After 5 years of active development, Everstone Studio have unveiled their Wuxia-themed open-world action-adventure RPG, Where Winds Meet, which is confirmed to be headed to the PlayStation 5 in the future. This announcement came during the recent PlayStation State of Play livestream, and was one of a colourful collective of new games announced.
Wuxia, a genre known for its depiction of ancient Chinese warriors performing superhuman martial arts feats, is central to Where Winds Meet. Players will step into the shoes of a young swordsman or swordswoman, mastering Chinese martial arts to enhance combat prowess, solve puzzles, and explore a vast landscape.
The game features a variety of mystical abilities, such as Qinggong, which allows characters to run up cliffs and across water, and Chi, enabling them to stun enemies or manipulate objects from afar. Players can also learn martial arts skills by observing animals, gaining abilities like breathing fire, leaping like a toad, or roaring like a lion.
Set during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period of Chinese history, Where Winds Meet sets out to offer a rich narrative where players will uncover their own identity and delve into historical backdrops. The game promises intriguing encounters and battles with captivating characters, adding depth to the storyline.
The open world of Where Winds Meet is designed to be vast and seamless, featuring breathtaking landscapes and diverse regions filled with historical and cultural elements. Interactions with local NPCs and the influence of Wuxia in the game’s puzzles, plots, and narration aim to immerse players in the martial arts saga.
Martial arts combat is a key feature of the game, with various weapons such as spears, swords, fans, dual blades, umbrellas, and glaives. The combat system combines traditional Chinese martial arts with fantastical elements, offering moves like Accupoint Hit to freeze opponents and Chi Grip to disarm them.
