Developer Free Lives and publisher Devolver Digital have joined forces to today release Cricket Through the Ages on the Nintendo Switch and PC (via Steam), doing what the game exactly says in its title… celebrating cricket through the ages. Formerly available only on mobile platforms, players are encouraged to “Swing bats and throw balls through the intertwined histories of humankind and cricket”, through an experience pitched as being part tongue-in-cheek and part physics-driven ode to hitting things with wood.
The game is designed to be simple, with a one button control scheme. That control? Pretty sure you can figure out what it does. Despite the one button control scheme however, there are six game modes that can be played solo or against a friendly rival, and perhaps to some surprise, does claim to enable players to “Learn about the totally real history of cricket”.
The game is available to purchase via Steam for PC, or the Nintendo eShop for the Nintendo Switch. It looks to be quite the unique, small game the likes of which show why both creative indie studios and publishers like Devolver Digital are so valuable in our current gaming landscape.
