Performer Yuyu to Make Anime Opening Debut with “Hazard Symbol” for Mysterious Disappearances

Yuyu, a 16-year-old artist who emerged as the Grand Prize winner in the Next Artist category of the InuCon! FlyingDog Artist Discovery Audition in 2022, is set to perform Hazard Symbol, the opening theme for the upcoming TV anime Mysterious Disappearances. The anime, which is an adaptation of a manga by Nujima currently serialized in Shogakukan’s Yawaraka Spirits magazine, is scheduled to premiere in Japan in April 2024. Hazard Symbol will be released as Yuyu’s second single on May 15, with production by singer and Vocaloid producer Mafumafu.

A second promotional video for Mysterious Disappearances, featuring Hazard Symbol, has been released today. This marks Yuyu’s first involvement in performing an opening theme for a TV anime.

In addition, Yuyu has launched the “Yuyu 100 Video Project” on her official TikTok account starting today, planning to share a mix of original songs, cover versions of popular tracks, behind-the-scenes content, and more. The project’s first post features Hazard Symbol.

Yuyu expressed her excitement and honour in performing the opening theme for Mysterious Disappearances:

Nice to meet you. I’m Yuyu, the vocalist for the opening theme song “Hazard Symbol” of Mysterious Disappearances. I feel honored to sing for this enchanting story. Ever since the teaser PV was released, I’ve been filled with excitement and can’t stop grinning. I believe that we’ve created a suitably divine song for Mysterious Disappearances, so please look forward to it.

Mafumafu, who composed “Hazard Symbol,” also shared insights into the song’s creative process:

I wrote the song “Hazard Symbol” for Yuyu. After reading the entire manga, I focused on expressing the mysterious and supernatural elements through music. Yuyu’s distinctive and expressive vocal style has taken the song to an even more thrilling level than I initially envisioned.

Hazard Symbol will be available in both a limited first edition and a regular edition, with the former including a special booklet. The song, along with an untitled track and instrumental versions, will be released physically in May and will be available for streaming and download on various platforms from midnight on 11 April 2024.
