Taking their second stab at the virtual reality market for their PlayStation gaming consoles, Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially launched the PlayStation VR2 worldwide for all those who own a PlayStation 5. This peripheral builds upon the framework set by the original PlayStation VR, and despite not featuring native backwards compatibility for previous games, is being combined with a sizable library of newly released and updated games.
A full review of the platform will be posted on The Otaku’s Study over the weekend, including the first wave of PlayStation VR2 game reviews – including Horizon Call of the Mountain and Zombieland: Headshot Fever Reloaded.

While separate from the already versatile PC-based virtual reality platforms that enjoys an extensive library of games, with consistently performing PlayStation 5 hardware, the PSVR2 should not be ruled out. Some improvements over its original PS4 iteration includes dual-OLED 4K display (2,000 x 2,040 pixels for each display), movements tracked via built-in cameras and new controllers, eye tracking support, haptic feedback through controllers/headset, much more attention towards supporting players create a (hopefully hazard-free) play area and more.
Here in Australia the PlayStation VR2 is priced at $879.00, with a special bundle including Horizon Call of the Mountain priced at $959.00. Therefore it isn’t the cheapest peripheral on the market, costing more than a PlayStation 5 unit itself.
