On Friday this week, Baz Luhrmann’s iconic film Moulin Rouge! will be headed to the Regent Theatre stage in Melbourne in musical theatre form. Described by the producer as a “theatrical celebration of truth, beauty, freedom and — above all – love” and “more than a musical; it is a state of mind”, its release follows earlier adaptations of Luhrmann’s works such as the incredibly enjoyable Strictly Ballroom the Musical.
Producer Global Creatures has released the final tickets for Moulin Rouge! The Musical through TicketMaster, for performances from 8 April 2022 until 29 April 2022. With this, it has been confirmed that the season will conclude the first leg on its Australian tour on 29 April 2022. No details have been confirmed about future venues for the Australian tour, but expect to hear more in the coming months.
Moulin Rouge! The Musical is based on the original Baz Luhrmann film, featuring a book by John Logan, direction by Alex Timbers, choreography by Sonya Tayeh, music supervision by Justin Levine, set designs by Derek McLane, costumes by Catherine Zuber, lighting by Justin Townsend and sound design by Peter Hylenski.
Produced by the Australian theatrical company Global Creatures, the production originated on Broadway before the COVID-19 pandemic and will make its first Australian appearance at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne.
