While many generations ago, video games based on anime franchises were considered niche or were only a step up from film-to-video-game adaptations, some studios have found success with some of the more popular franchises – such as Bandai Namco Entertainment with Dragon Ball Z, Koei Tecmo with Attack on Titan and – most recently – SEGA with the popular Demon Slayer multimedia franchise.
After launching Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles a mere fortnight ago for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC – SEGA has today celebrated 1 million units being shipped worldwide. This number encompasses all physical versions shipped along with all digital copies sold. It should be clarified that this is only “shipped” meaning, it is uncertain what percentage of the physical copies shipped are in the hands of gamers at the moment.
Owners of the game can look forward to three free post-launch content updates scheduled for release in the coming months, the first of them expected in the coming days. This update will include the addition of two playable demon characters, Rui (Lower Five) and Akaza (Upper Three) of the Twelve Kizuki.
