Mary Poppins to Fly Into Sydney’s Lyric Theatre From May 2022

Missed the chance to see Marry Poppins the Broadway Musical during one of its original tours across Australia? The teams at The Walt Disney Company Australia & New Zealand, Michael Cassel Group and Cameron Mackintosh have confirmed that they will be bringing the iconic film to stage adaptation of Mary Poppins to the Sydney Lyric Theatre from May 2022.

Limited information is know about the season other than it is expected to have a “strictly limited run” and will be based on “Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s new production”. It is also unknown whether it will be strictly limited to the Sydney market, or whether it will tour across the country.

Tickets are expected to go on sale August 2021, and you can express your interest for more information via the show’s official website.

The stage adaptation of Mary Poppins was co-created by Cameron Mackintosh, with a book by Julian Fellowes, and original music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman. Much like all of Disney’s film to stage adaptations, although certainly retaining much of the charm that we grew up watching ourselves, Mary Poppins the Broadway Musical features new plotlines and I would argue has a more broader appeal to teenagers and adults than their source material.
