A few days ago, after Microsoft finalised their acquisition of ZeniMax Media, it was announced that twenty games from their studios would be available immediately via the Xbox Game Pass. This line-up included works from many iconic franchises such as Dishonored, DOOM, The Elder Scrolls and Fallout. It was mentioned that a few of these titles would receive FPS Boost support on the Xbox Series X|S new generation gaming platform, which is described by the Xbox team as the following:
FPS Boost employs a variety of new methods for nearly doubling the original framerate on select titles. Higher, steadier framerates make games visually smoother, resulting in more immersive gameplay. We partnered closely with developers to enhance the experience while maintaining the game’s original intent. And while not applicable to all games, these new techniques can push game engines to render more quickly for a buttery smooth experience beyond what the original game might have delivered due to the capabilities of the hardware at the time.
It has been confirmed that the five games to receive FPS Boost support at this time includes: Dishonored: Definitive Edition, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, Fallout 4, Fallout 76 and Prey.
The games are being updated with the support, and in some cases may require gamer intervention to switch on and off. Of particular note is Fallout 4 and Fallout 76, which requires a reduction in game resolution to take advantage of. To switch support on and off for both FPS Boost and Auto HDR functionality, you can go to the Manage Game section for your chosen title, select “Compatibility Options” and toggle at will.
