The curtain is rising on a second act for I Want to Play the Villain!. Ukrainian studio Triomatica Games has added Chapter 2 to the Steam demo for its theatre-themed logic puzzle game to mark its appearance in Steam Next Fest, which runs from 19 to 26 October. Until now, the demo only included Chapter 1. The addition of Chapter 2 doubles the demo’s length and raises the difficulty, with a cast of actors who are harder to satisfy and a clearer idea of what the full game will offer. Chapter 1 and its 18 challenges remain in the demo for anyone who has not played it yet.
The goal in I Want to Play the Villain! is to put on a show that works by matching actors to the right roles. Each actor has their own personality, wishes, ambitions, fears and favourite parts, and players rearrange the cast, swap costumes and change the story to keep everyone happy. That might mean giving an actor their dream role, pairing them with the right co-star or keeping them away from situations they fear.
Each chapter brings its own setting, characters, mechanics and story, and the stories themselves are modular, so a single change can alter the whole performance and lead to different outcomes. As the puzzles become more challenging, success depends on understanding each actor’s preferences and anxieties. Those who want to try the game on mobile can also download Villain!, a free standalone version of Chapter 1, on iOS and Android now.
I Want to Play the Villain! is due in the first quarter of 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, iOS, and Android
