Australian production house We Made A Thing Studios is making its move into game development with Box Knight, a roguelite action RPG set to launch for PC via Steam on 25 August 2026. The title marks the studio’s first playable game and places players inside an office that has been transformed by a toxic workplace. Former employees have become dangerous creatures, leaving the player to fight through the workplace using cardboard weapons and improvised armour.
Box Knight combines side-scrolling beat ’em up combat with action RPG and roguelite progression systems. Combat is designed around positioning and timing, with different enemies requiring players to change their approach. Some creatures cannot be attacked from above, while others require piercing attacks or can explode when jumped on. Players can improve their character between individual areas by selecting new cardboard weapons, abilities and upgrades. Stronger performances can provide additional upgrade choices, allowing players to shape their build as a run progresses.
Progress also continues between runs. Resources earned while playing can be used to unlock permanent upgrades, additional weapons and stat improvements, providing further options after a failed attempt. While the game’s demo is focused on single-player gameplay, the full release will also include local couch co-op, allowing two players to tackle the office together.
We Made A Thing Studios has adopted a comic book inspired visual style for Box Knight, covering everything from its transformed employees and combat animations to cubicles, desks and other corporate environments. Character customisation will also be available, with players able to unlock different helmets, uniforms, weapons and cosmetic items for their Box Knight.
