The Pokémon Company group marked the 30th anniversary of the popular mass-media franchise with a new Pokémon Presents broadcast. Streamed globally on Pokémon Day, which commemorates the original Japanese launch of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green on 27 February 1996, the presentation revealed the next mainline RPG titles: Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves. Following adventures in a very British looking world, a school environment and in the labyrinthian streets of a familiar city – the Nintendo Switch 2’s first native-exclusive release will hopefully offer much of what players hope for.
Developed by GAME FREAK Inc., these new entries are slated for a 2027 release on the Nintendo Switch 2. The games will feature an open-world environment characterised by a vast ocean and windswept islands. Players will take on the role of a protagonist whose outfit changes based on the version being played. Starting with these 2027 releases, Brazilian Portuguese will also be included as an official language option.
At the start of their journey, players will select one of three new partner Pokémon. The Grass-type Bean Chick Pokémon, Browt, stands at 0.3 metres tall, weighs 3.5 kilograms and has the Overgrow ability. Pombon is a Fire-type Puppy Pokémon measuring 0.4 metres and weighing 6.7 kilograms with the Blaze ability. Finally, the Water-type Water Gecko Pokémon, Gecqua, is 0.3 metres tall, weighs 4.3 kilograms and features the Torrent ability.
Beyond the new generation of games, the broadcast confirmed the immediate release of Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version on the Nintendo eShop and My Nintendo Store.
