THQ Nordic and Nine Rocks Games have announced the release of Elkcrest Island, the fifth and final map downloadable content for the hunting simulation game Way of the Hunter. In a departure from previous expansions of this scale, this final content update is being made available to all players at no cost.
The release of this map marks the conclusion of the content roadmap for the title, which has been supported for approximately three and a half years. The developers have indicated that this free release is intended as a gesture of gratitude to the community. Moving forward, the studio will shift its full focus to the development of the next title in the franchise.
Elkcrest Island takes place in a remote northern wilderness setting. The map introduces a new predator to the franchise in the form of the North American cougar. Additionally, the update sees the return of the Merriam’s Wild Turkey, a species the developers noted was a frequent request from the player base. The new environment features a mix of terrain, including hills, mountain ranges, lakes and open plains. The region hosts a wide variety of wildlife, such as the Alaska Moose, Roosevelt Elk, Bighorn Sheep, Barren-Ground Caribou, Wood Bison, Mountain Goat and the Kodiak Bear among others.
Way of the Hunter is available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Elkcrest Island content is available now and requires the base game to play.
