IO Interactive and Amazon MGM Studios have confirmed that Lenny Kravitz has joined the cast of their upcoming espionage title, 007 First Light. The announcement coincided with a new trailer showcased during The Game Awards, which provided a first look at the actor’s in-game character.
Kravitz is set to portray “The Pirate King Bawma,” the leader of a black-market arms network known as Aleph. According to the character biography provided by the developers, Bawma rose through the ranks of modern piracy by the age of 17, eventually transforming an abandoned ship graveyard in Mauritania into the headquarters of his operations. He is described as a figure who blurs the lines between ally and adversary. This project marks the first time Kravitz has provided his likeness and voiceover work for a video game.
Commenting on his involvement with the project and the nature of his character, Lenny Kravitz shared his perspective on entering the Bond universe:
The Bond franchise has such an incredible legacy in video games, so to step into it with a brand-new character like Bawma is amazing. He’s magnetic and unpredictable, there’s danger in him, but also heart and purpose. He’s not just a man with power; he is a man who has to fight for every inch of it. Bringing that energy into 007’s world felt incredible.
Hakan Abrak, CEO at IO Interactive, spoke about the casting decision and how Kravitz’s performance aligns with the studio’s vision for the narrative:
Lenny brings an extraordinary presence to 007 First Light. He is a one-of-a-kind performer, with unbelievable charisma, who fits perfectly with the character of Bawma. He captured exactly what we envisioned: a formidable man who commands both fear and loyalty, which will have a profound impact on Bond’s journey into the world of espionage.
007 First Light is scheduled for release on 27 March 2026. It will be available on the PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and the Nintendo Switch 2.
