Bandai Namco Entertainment has released a free content update for Patapon 1+2 Replay just in time for the festive season. This update introduces a new game mode titled ‘Boss Rush Challenge’, designed specifically for players who have already completed the main narrative campaign.
The Boss Rush Challenge allows users to import the armies they have raised in Patapon 1 and Patapon 2 to fight through consecutive battles. The structure of the mode relies on procedural generation, with bosses appearing at random. The difficulty scales as players progress, with the number of bosses in a specific stage matching the stage number itself. Consequently, the strength of these enemies increases as players advance through the tiers.
Several specific gameplay mechanics have been implemented for this mode regarding unit health and survival. The HP and survival status of the army carries over between battles within a single stage. If a Patapon’s HP reaches zero, they will fall in battle, though they will not drop a cap. Between battles, units recover a fixed amount of HP, with units kept in reserve recovering more health than those who participated in the fight. The character Hatapon is an exception to this rule and will recover to full HP after every battle.
Progression in Boss Rush Challenge is governed by specific save restrictions. Save data can only be created after successfully clearing a stage, with a limit of one save file allowed for Patapon 1 and one for Patapon 2. If a player experiences a Game Over, they must restart from their last save point. Any negative outcomes, such as losing Patapons or consuming items during the Boss Rush Challenge, will not affect the player’s main scenario data.
