Just in time for the festive season and bringing some of the content cycles of Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail to their natural conclusion, Square Enix has deployed their latest major content update for Final Fantasy XIV Online. Titled Patch 7.4: Into the Mist, the update introduces the next chapter of the main scenario questline, new combat encounters, and significant systemic changes regarding character customization.
A primary feature of this patch is a substantial revision to the in-game glamour system. Players are now able to alter the appearance of their gear without the previous restrictions regarding class, job or character level. This update allows for a wider range of outfit combinations, although this only pertains to attire and not weapons due to animation limitations, and given some outfits may not align with some animations – everything comes with an ‘At your aesthetic risk’ warning.
The update also brings the grand finale of the Arcadion raid series with the release of the Heavyweight Division. While the standard difficulty is available immediately, the Savage difficulty mode is scheduled to unlock on 6 January 2026 – so you don’t need to worry about spending Christmas Day grinding.
In addition to the main scenario and raids, the Occult Crescent content has been expanded with three new Phantom Jobs and new accessory sets. The competitive side of the game sees the beginning of PvP Series 10, which introduces a new Frontline map and campaign.
The base update for Final Fantasy XIV Patch 7.4: Into the Mist will feature:
- New Main Scenario Quests
- New Dungeon – Mistwake
- New Trial – Hell on Rails (Includes both Normal and Extreme modes)
- New Raid Tier – The Arcadion: Heavyweight Division (Includes both Normal and Savage modes). Note: Savage difficulty will be released on Tuesday, 6 January 2026
- New Unreal Trial – Tsukuyomi’s Pain (Unreal): Take on Tsukuyomi, at level 100
- Duty Support Additions – Support for Dzemael Darkhold and Aurum Vale will be added
- Occult Crescent Update – 3 new Phantom Jobs (Mystic Knight, Dancer and Gladiator) and the introduction of accessories that include set bonuses
- Glamour System Updates – Removal of level/class/job-restrictions on gear for glamour purposes, allowing players to glamour the appearance of gear regardless of previous level, class, and job restrictions.
- PvP Updates – The start of PvP Series 10, existing action adjustments, and the addition of a new Frontline map and campaign: Worqor Chirteh (Triumph)
- Miscellaneous Updates – A new Air Force One destination in the Gold Saucer, New UI color themes (Clear White, Clear Green), Strategy Board, Command Panel, and more
Looking ahead, the development team has also outlined content planned for the upcoming sub-patches 7.41 and 7.45:
