Capcom has confirmed that Monster Hunter Stories and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin are now available to purchase on Xbox One and are playable on Xbox Series X|S, bringing the story driven spin-off side of the Monster Hunter franchise to more platforms. Both titles put players in the role of Riders rather than Hunters, focusing on forming bonds with Monsties, engaging in turn based battles and exploring narrative driven adventures set in the wider Monster Hunter universe.
Monster Hunter Stories introduces a world built around friendship and discovery, where Riders hatch and raise Monsties and forge lasting connections with them while travelling across varied regions. Battles use a turn based system that rewards pattern recognition and tactical choices rather than real time action.
Meanwhile, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin continues this approach with a larger scale adventure that sees players raising a legendary Rathalos and becoming caught up in a mystery with potentially world altering consequences. The sequel sets out to offer players an expansion on the first game’s systems while retaining its focus on party building and story.
Cross game bonuses are available for players who have save data from related Monster Hunter titles on the same platform. These include:
- Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin save data unlocking the Mahana Rider outfit for Navirou in Monster Hunter Stories
- Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin save data unlocking the Rider outfit in Monster Hunter Rise
- Monster Hunter Rise save data unlocking the Kamura Garb layered armour in Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin
To coincide with the broader availability of the series, Capcom is also offering a special discounted bundle that includes both Monster Hunter Stories and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. This bundle is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam
Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection launches on 13 March 2026.
