System Era and Devolver Digital has released Megatech, the second major DLC for Astroneer, with the new content now available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. A Nintendo Switch version of the DLC is confirmed as coming soon. Arriving alongside the new DLC’s release is the dedicated PlayStation 5 version. Those who already own the game on PlayStation 4 can upgrade to the PS5 edition at no additional cost.
- Megatech focuses on large scale construction projects, expanding Astroneer’s familiar base building systems with what the studio describes as Megastructures that integrate with existing technology. Some of the key features of the DLC include:
- A massive Orbital Platform Megastructure that acts as a customisable hub. Players can decide what kind of asteroid will be created at its centre and which planet it will orbit. Only one Orbital Platform can be built, and it is not easily repositioned, so planning is encouraged.
- The Biodome Megastructure, a dedicated facility for cultivating and harvesting a wide range of alien flora. With additional Biodome extensions and a variety of Mega Modules, it can be expanded into a centralised farming complex for produce and seeds.
- A Museum structure that functions as a long term showcase of base productivity. By donating spare bytes, power, resources and seeds, players can unlock rewards, new perks and build up an increasingly tall holographic display that reflects their contributions.
A free update for all Astroneer owners has been released alongside Megatech. This patch introduces several new structures and resources, along with a range of quality of life improvements designed to refine the overall experience for both new and returning players.
