Continuing their ‘Discovery Tour’ educational series, albeit not within the confines of the most recently released Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Ubisoft has released the Discovery Tour App: Medieval Baghdad, a no cost experience that places users in a recreation of 9th century Baghdad during the Abbasid Empire. The app is available now on the App Store and Google Play, and can also be accessed on any device via web browser support.
Built from the city recreation featured in Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the app presents Baghdad as both a learning tool and a virtual space to explore. Two modes are included, which consist of:
Access Codex offers curated encyclopedic entries covering the history, art and culture of medieval Baghdad and the Abbasid Caliphate. Based on the History of Baghdad Codex from Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the entries support Augmented Reality interactions and include additional historical context for each element.
Explore Baghdad delivers a gamified, narrative led tour that takes around two hours to complete. Players collect Codex entries through minigames and 360 degree exploration.
Real artifacts from the period appear within the app, such as the Ruby Lustre Bowl from the Arab World Institute Museum in Paris, which can be examined in AR using high quality 3D scans provided by the museum.
