Papercoda Games, a women led indie studio focused on impactful storytelling, has unveiled Media Circus, a very timely narrative strategy game that asks players to launch and steer a newspaper through a cutthroat, satirical animal world. As editor in chief, you assign reporters, choose what becomes news, and balance ideals with profitability while rival factions compete for space on your front page.
At its core, Media Circus is about editorial power and consequence. You plan issues with creative layout tools that determine what stories lead, how loudly headlines speak, and how advertising slots influence the bottom line. Growing your outlet’s influence means attracting readers, securing revenue, and outmaneuvering competitors. An underlying modular narrative system reacts to editorial, narrative, and financial choices, altering events and factions in granular ways and encouraging repeat playthroughs.
Identity is set to be central to progression. You can shape the paper into a money spinning tabloid, a hard nosed investigative journal, a propaganda mouthpiece, or something in between, with the game promising hundreds of permutations and endings based on how your coverage reshapes its world.
Media Circus is planned to launch first on PC, with console versions to follow. It is built in Godot and currently targets an early 2027 release.
