Aksys Games has revealed The Good Old Days, a 2D Metroidvania-style action game inspired by the charm and spirit of 1980s adventure films, will launch in Autumn 2025 (Northern Hemisphere) or Spring 2025 (Southern Hemisphere) on the Nintendo Switch.
Set in the fictional city of Arostia, players take on the role of Sean, a boy caught up in a single extraordinary day as he tries to resolve the heavy debt left behind by his missing father. Alongside his friends, Sean will explore hidden areas, uncover secrets, and master gameplay mechanics that aim to blend nostalgic callbacks with fresh challenges.
Described as a heartfelt tribute to the “golden age of youth,” the game’s world is filled with nods to childhood memories; ranging from boss battles modelled after classic toys to environments reminiscent of arcades and playgrounds.
While Sean is the starting character, rescuing friends along the way unlocks them as additional playable characters, each with unique abilities that open new routes through the world. Players can freely switch between characters to tackle challenges in different ways, with the option to avoid boss fights entirely if they choose.
The Good Old Days features multiple endings shaped by player decisions, from story events and character interactions to time of day and resource management. Its circular narrative design means each ending flows naturally into the beginning of a new run, encouraging multiple playthroughs to uncover all possible outcomes.
