Sony Interactive Entertainment and Naughty Dog has released a new update for The Last of Us Part II Remastered on PlayStation 5 and PC, which reorganises the game’s narrative into strict timeline order, offering players an alternate way to follow Ellie and Abby’s intertwined journeys.
Dubbed Chronological mode, the option rearranges every flashback and time skip so events unfold in a single continuous sequence. Naughty Dog notes that this structure helps highlight details such as the progression from Joel gifting Ellie a guitar to her learning to play, while also making the near-miss encounters between Ellie and Abby in Seattle easier to track.

Finishing the campaign in Chronological mode awards new trophies and unlocks two crossover cosmetics for No Return, the roguelike survival mode introduced in Part II Remastered. Players will find Joel able to be outfitted as Nathan Drake and Tommy dressed as Sam Drake, a nod to Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series.
The update arrives as Patch 2.1.0 on PS5 and Patch 1.5 on both Steam and the Epic Games Store. Alongside the new mode and unlockables, the patch delivers additional bug fixes and performance improvements for all platforms.
