RIK ANIMATION Studio and indie outfit boddiul have confirmed that project; VIRAI: DOOMER’s LIFE ESCAPE will reach PC in the final quarter of 2025, with a new animated trailer setting the timing and a downloadable demo already live on Steam.
Described as a life-simulation RPG that blends visual-novel storytelling with psychological-thriller tension, the game follows Hicha, a reclusive young woman whose only connection to the outside world is her virtual persona, Virai. When that digital companion begins to reveal unsettling motives, players must guide Hicha through a fragile daily routine, navigate branching dialogue choices and ultimately decide whether she finds freedom or succumbs to despair.
The project draws inspiration from titles such as OMORI and Needy Streamer Overload, diving into themes of parasocial relationships and the blurred boundaries between physical and virtual identity. Artist and co-creator RIKANI sets out to employ multiple visual styles to reflect Hicha’s fractured reality: a bleak 2D pixel world inside her apartment contrasted with an otherworldly 3D realm known as VITA. Ten distinct endings are promised, ranging from complete collapse to hard-won liberation, with an alternate-reality game layer tucked away for players who enjoy chasing cryptic clues beyond the main narrative. Speaking about the project, RIKANI cites personal experience as a content creator and battles with mental health as key influences on the story’s direction and tone.
Music also plays a role in shaping the atmosphere, with ten hidden tracks from various indie post-punk artists scattered throughout the campaign.
