Mycopunk, a squad-based sci-fi shooter from developer Pigeons at Play and publisher Devolver Digital, has arrived on Steam Early Access. In this co-op adventure, players assemble a team of “robot rejects” to combat a sprawling mycological threat that has overrun the surface of the moon New Atlas.
The game’s premise sets out to be straightforward but distinct: A mysterious fungus has begun consuming everything in its path and even adapts by assimilating destroyed robot parts. Your crew must don advanced combat exoskeletons, descend from the orbital HUB dropship, and purge the infection before it spreads beyond the lunar surface.
Customization lies at the heart of Mycopunk’s action. Squads choose from a vast array of futuristic firearms – plasma rifles, rail-guns, auto-shotguns and more – and then enhance each weapon through a grid-based upgrade system. By combining different modules, players can invent everything from a rapid-fire toxin sprayer to a grenade launcher that sprouts fungal spores upon impact. Experimenting with loadouts is essential, since fallen foes can reclaim and repurpose your discarded parts into ever-deadlier adversaries.
Between missions, crews return to the HUB, a fully explorable orbital dropship stocked with mini-games, lore terminals, and secret challenges. Here teammates can unwind, test prototype weapons in controlled ranges, or simply admire the view of a moon scarred by infestation.
If getting in on the action to stop our potential fungal overlords early sounds up your alley, Mycopunk is now available via Steam.
