The walls and floors are yellow, the lights flicker, and something is watching. Backrooms Level X, the latest entry in the ever-growing universe of Backrooms-inspired horror, is now available on PC via Steam, priced at £9.99 / $9.99 / €9.99, with a 20% discount offered at launch. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch versions are expected soon, but for now, PC players are the only ones to venture into this version of the Backrooms for now.
Created by solo developer José Manuel Conesa Hernández and published by Firenut Games, Backrooms Level X invites players to explore an endless maze of unsettling, liminal spaces. What begins as a freak accident in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in October 1986 quickly spirals into a waking nightmare, with the game’s narrative unfolding through cryptic clues and the ominous silence of abandoned rooms. The player is left with only their wits as they wander through the sprawling labyrinth, stalked by unseen horrors and monstrous entities that shift with every turn.
Spread across more than 13 levels, each environment is carefully designed to unsettle, with oppressive sound design and ever-present tension lurking around every corner. The game seeks to blend exploration, puzzle-solving, and survival as players decipher VHS-era mysteries, confront nightmarish bosses, and try to maintain a grip on sanity long enough to escape. Backrooms Level X promises a journey where escape is never certain and every sound could signal danger.
