Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Sucker Punch Productions have announced that Ghost of Yōtei, a new narrative action game set in feudal Japan, will release exclusively on PlayStation 5 from Thursday, 2 October 2025.
While not a direct sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yōtei is positioned as a spiritual successor, with a new story and protagonist. Set in Ezo (modern-day Hokkaido), the game follows Atsu, a woman seeking revenge against a group of outlaws known as the Yōtei Six, who murdered her family sixteen years earlier and left her for dead. Armed with the katana that once pinned her to a burning ginkgo tree, Atsu returns home to hunt each member of the group—The Snake, The Oni, The Kitsune, The Spider, The Dragon, and Lord Saito.
Ghost of Yōtei aims to expand upon the open-world exploration of Ghost of Tsushima, offering players the freedom to choose which members of the Yōtei Six to pursue in any order. In addition to the main quest, players can take on bounties, learn new combat techniques from weapon masters, and set up campfires throughout Ezo to rest and recover.
Pre-orders for Ghost of Yōtei open on Friday, 2 May, at 10:00 AM local time. All editions will include a unique in-game mask and a set of seven PlayStation Network avatars based on Atsu and the Yōtei Six. Avatars will be available immediately for digital pre-orders via PlayStation Store.
The Standard Edition will be priced at $124.95 AUD (RRP) and will be available both digitally and at retail. A Digital Deluxe Edition will also be available for $139.95 AUD (RRP), featuring additional in-game content such as The Snake’s armour set, alternate dye for starting armour, a unique horse colour and saddle, a gold Sword Kit, a gameplay Charm, and early access to Traveller’s Maps, which reveal statue locations used for skill upgrades.
For those seeking physical collectibles, the Ghost of Yōtei Collector’s Edition will retail for $369.95 AUD (RRP) and will be available through select retailers. It includes all pre-order bonuses, the Digital Deluxe Edition content, and a range of physical items:
- A full-scale resin replica of Atsu’s Ghost mask, sized to match Jin’s mask from the Ghost of Tsushima Collector’s Edition
- Four 5 x 7-inch art cards featuring key imagery from the game
- A 71-inch cotton blend sash printed with the names of the Yōtei Six
- A replica of the Tsuba from Atsu’s katana, complete with its own display stand
- A pouch of replica coins and instructions for playing Zeni Hajiki, a mini-game included in Ghost of Yōtei
- A foldable papercraft ginkgo tree scene
