During this morning’s PlayStation State of Play broadcast, 1047 Games announced that Splitgate 2 is set to launch in 2025 for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. Ahead of the full release, a limited-time Alpha will be available exclusively on PlayStation 5 from February 27 to March 2, giving players an early chance to experience the next evolution of the portal-based FPS.
In Splitgate 2, players take on the role of elite Aces—futuristic athletes competing in a high-speed, arena-based combat sport. The game builds on the original Splitgate by enhancing movement-based strategy, with every player equipped with a portal gun that allows for unpredictable and tactical engagements. Alongside an arsenal of advanced weapons, the game introduces new abilities, equipment, and perks to keep battles dynamic and fresh.
A key highlight of the Alpha is the introduction of Multi-Team Portal Warfare, a large-scale mode featuring 24-player, 8v8v8 battles. This mode expands the franchise’s traditional 4v4 arena gameplay onto a massive new map, touted to be twenty times larger than any previous Splitgate map. The mode is designed to push teamwork and strategic portal use to new levels, encouraging players to experiment with creative movement and positioning.
1047 Games has emphasized that player feedback will be crucial in shaping the final version of the game. Adjustments to mechanics, level design, and portal interactions have already been influenced by previous playtests, and the Alpha will serve as another opportunity for the community to provide input.
