Publisher Good Shepherd Entertainment and developer Violet Saint have released a playable demo for their upcoming dark fantasy hack-and-slash adventure, Moroi, as part of Steam Next Fest. The demo is available now for PC players eager to explore the game’s eerie, folklore-inspired world.
Moroi is described as a twisted fairytale influenced by Romanian folklore and surrealist horror. Players find themselves imprisoned in the enigmatic Cosmic Engine, a labyrinthine realm filled with grotesque characters and hidden secrets. With no memory of their past, players must fight their way through the maze-like world, uncovering dark truths along the way.
The demo introduces the opening moments of the game, where players must escape their confinement and interact with the bizarre inhabitants of the Cosmic Engine. Characters such as the flesh-craving Royal Grinder, a mysterious old woman with a supernatural recipe, and a cryptic wizard add to the game’s eerie atmosphere. Each interaction may offer aid or pose a deadly threat, making trust a scarce commodity in this surreal environment.
While featuring the opening moments of the game, it is not confirmed whether save files will be transferrable across to the full release — but given no formal release date has been confirmed, I would hazard a guess that it won’t be.
Violet Saint has also confirmed a few bugs that have been identified in the build, which should (hopefully) be ironed out in the final release:
Alt + Tab issues: Switching out of the game may cause UI malfunctions, requiring a restart.
Controller display limitations: The game only shows generic gamepad glyphs, even when using a DualSense or DualShock controller.
Credit sequence bug: Pressing “B” at the end of the demo will close the game instead of returning to the main menu—players should use “Y” instead.
Combat rotation glitch: Player rotation may occasionally get stuck but can be reset by rolling or executing an enemy.
Duck rescue bug: Players may need to roll through a doorway in the kitchen section to reach a duck’s cage.
Non-English language tracks: Available but not fully quality-checked.
Steam Deck compatibility: The game is not currently optimised for Steam Deck.
