Rebel Wolves, a studio co-founded by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, known for his work on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, has announced its first game, The Blood of Dawnwalker. Set in an alternate 14th century, this narrative sandbox action RPG places players in a world where vampires have overthrown feudal lords, leaving humanity struggling for survival. Being published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, the game is set to release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC sometime in the future.
In The Blood of Dawnwalker, players step into the shoes of Coen, a young man turned into a Dawnwalker—a being that exists between the realms of humans and vampires. Over 30 days and nights, players will decide Coen’s path: save his family, seek revenge on his sire, or carve out a fate dictated by their own choices. This dark fantasy tale unfolds in the shadow of the Black Death and amidst bloody conflicts, set in Vale Sangora, a fictional region in the Carpathian Mountains.
Konrad Tomaszkiewicz has described the design philosophy behind the game as follows:
Inspired by classic RPGs, we want players to feel the sense of urgency in an open world game. There are multiple approaches to saving Coen’s family with no clear division between main and side quests, you decide on how you spend the time. Time is a resource and with each quest progressing its passage, it is impossible to complete all stories and arcs before the dreadful deadline, making each playthrough unique. We call it a narrative sandbox.
The game’s mechanics seek to reflect the dual nature of its protagonist, Coen, whose abilities shift depending on the time of day. Players can explore different approaches, deciding whether to fight for humanity or embrace vampiric powers, with each choice shaping their skills, abilities, and the story’s outcome.
