Following its release on previous generation platforms, Spike Chunsoft, Inc announced the release of CRYSTAR for PlayStation 5, now available as a digital download exclusive in North America and Europe for $19.99 USD or local equivalent. Developed by FURYU Corporation, this updated version includes over 30 pre-loaded costumes, incorporating items that were previously paid DLC in other versions.
CRYSTAR tells the story of Rei, a girl fighting through Purgatory to resurrect her deceased sister, Mirai. Seeking to combine emotional storytelling with dynamic gameplay, players are encouraged to “fight through their tears,” as crying is central to the battle system. Tears power up attacks, armor, and summon abilities, allowing players to activate Guardian Mode and call upon their Guardian for enhanced abilities during combat.
Players can switch freely between four characters, including Rei, as they progress through the story. Additional gameplay features include a memoir collection from defeated enemies, a music library, a combo system, and an adjustable difficulty setting to cater to all player skill levels.
The PS5 version complements the original experience with a costume collection, featuring themes including “Swimsuit”, “Santa”, and “Official 4-Panel Comic Costumes”. In addition to having their own aesthetic appeals, some of these costumes may have specific benefits such as reducing item costs or or drawing out certain enemies.
