SEGA’s Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has unveiled fresh details about Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. Set after the events of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, the game follows Goro Majima as he seeks to recover his lost memories, assembles a pirate crew, and sets sail to uncover legendary treasure. The newly released information highlights battle mechanics, ship customisation, and strategies for conquering the high seas.
Players can utilise two unique combat styles in battle: “Mad Dog” and “Sea Dog.” The “Mad Dog” style focuses on fast-paced attacks, combining punches, kicks, and knife strokes to execute aerial combos. Building the Madness Gauge allows players to summon shadowy doppelgangers for enhanced attacks. In the “Sea Dog” style, dual-wielding cutlasses enables powerful combos and finishing moves, while advancing the story unlocks the ability to summon dark deities using treasures known as “Dark Instruments.”
The game also introduces three sidearms—Cutlass Boomerang, Pistol, and Chain Hook—that enhance combat in the “Sea Dog” style. These weapons allow for wide-area attacks, explosive damage, or quick approaches to enemies. Dark Instruments, looted from rival pirate ships, summon cursed creatures to aid in battle. For example, a violin calls forth man-eating sharks, while a guitar unleashes a massive ape. Other instruments summon tornados, lightning-wielding jellyfish, and other devastating allies.
Naval combat forms a significant part of gameplay, with players commanding the Goro Maru to explore treasure islands, defend against attacks, and engage in ship-to-ship battles. Success in these encounters requires careful ship modifications and strategic use of crew members, who bring unique offensive or supportive traits to deck battles.
Additionally, the Pirates’ Coliseum in Madlantis offers a range of challenges, from one-on-one duels to chaotic free-for-alls with up to nine other pirate crews. With customisable ships and a variety of battle scenarios, the game promises a rich blend of exploration and combat on the high seas.
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is set to release on 21 February 2025 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
