Hot on the heels of Activision and Treyarch launching the game late last month, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has received an update introducing the original 1950s Nuketown map and the Infected game mode to its Multiplayer offerings. These additions arrive as the game heads towards its first major season.
Infected is now live in Black Ops 6, marking its series debut just after Halloween. In this mode, one player begins as the “infected,” tasked with eliminating and converting survivors to the undead team. Each eliminated survivor joins the infected horde, challenging remaining players to survive until the timer runs out. With new Omnimovement mechanics, it is hoped that players will experience experience smoother and more fluid movement than previous iterations.
Additionally, a faithful remaster of the original Nuketown map, an homage to the Nevada nuclear test site that debuted in Call of Duty: Black Ops in 2010, has been added to the game. Designed by veteran Treyarch map creator Adam Hoggatt, the remaster retains the 1950s aesthetic and classic three-lane layout while enhancing graphical fidelity. Hoggatt shared his thoughts on reintroducing the fan-favourite map:
The original Nuketown has always been my favorite, mainly because of how it came about and how the studio rallied around it. Recently, it occurred to me that many of our current players have never experienced the original, so they get to feel the Nuketown magic for the first time.” But Hoggatt also expressed excitement for players familiar with the original map. “I’m excited that we are bringing back the original Nuketown exactly as you remember it but looking better than ever! Those players will definitely be hit with a big wave of nostalgia. I can’t wait!
Players eager to explore more Nuketown-inspired locales can jump into Warhead, a Multiplayer Strike map set in the same desert environment. This map offers 6v6 or 2v2 Gunfight modes and features buildings and vehicles half-buried in sand, creating a visually striking, post-apocalyptic battlefield.
