Ubisoft, in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, has officially released Star Wars Outlaws, the newest open-world game set in the broader Star Wars multimedia universe. The game is now available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC through the Ubisoft Store and Epic Games Store.
Developed by Massive Entertainment, Star Wars Outlaws introduces players to an original narrative set between Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. During this period, the Galactic Empire is focused on crushing the Rebel Alliance, leading to a thriving criminal underworld. Players will assume the role of Kay Vess, a resourceful scoundrel portrayed by Humberly González, who, alongside her loyal companion Nix (voiced by Dee Bradley Baker), embarks on a heist in the Outer Rim. The duo aims to navigate through the galaxy’s crime syndicates, battling and outsmarting enemies to secure their place among the galaxy’s most notorious figures.
The storyline of Star Wars Outlaws follows Kay Vess and Nix as they seize a rare opportunity amidst the chaos caused by the Empire’s preoccupation with the Rebel Alliance. Kay’s skills attract the attention of Sliro, the leader of the Zerek Besh syndicate, who places a bounty on her head. In response, Kay and Nix are given a chance to achieve freedom by pulling off a monumental heist. Throughout their journey, they will encounter and collaborate with various criminal organisations, including the Pyke Syndicate, the Hutt Cartel, the Ashiga Clan, and Crimson Dawn.
Gameplay in Star Wars Outlaws aims to allow players to adopt various strategies, including stealth, gadget use, and direct combat, to navigate their way through the underworld. Players can leverage Nix’s abilities for distraction and support or engage in blaster battles when necessary. The game also features a range of characters to interact with, including ND-5, a combat-experienced droid. The game’s setting spans several notable locations in the Star Wars galaxy, including Canto Bight, Kijimi, Tatooine, Akiva, and the new locale of Toshara.
A base copy of Star Wars Outlaws will set you back $99.95 AUD or local equivalent. But this wouldn’t be a Ubisoft release without multiple pricier special editions. These include the Gold Edition which comes with a season pass, and the Ultimate Edition which includes the base game, season pass, Sabacc Shark Bundle, Rogue Infiltrator Bundle, digital art book, and additional cosmetic bundles to be released with the second story pack.
The Season Pass offers access to exclusive content, including the “Jabba’s Gambit” mission, where players encounter Jabba the Hutt and must deal with a debt owed by ND-5. The pass also provides the “Kessel Runner Character Pack” and access to future story packs, such as Star Wars Outlaws: Wild Card, set for release in Spring 2024, and Star Wars Outlaws: A Pirate’s Fortune, expected in Autumn 2025. Each story pack will introduce new missions and cosmetic items for Kay, Nix, and the Trailblazer.
