After releasing earlier this year as a PlayStation Plus exclusive for the first month, before rolling out as a paid game to non-owners following the promotional period, Square Enix has announced that their 4v4 ‘foam party shooter’ live service game Foamstars will transition to a free-to-play model on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles starting from 3 October 2024 at 6:00 PM PDT.
Players who have already downloaded Foamstars prior to this transition are not expected to see any changes. Early adopters will also receive a “Legacy Gift,” which includes 12 exclusive colour-variant Bubble Beastie skins, one exclusive Slideboard design, and the title “Legacy.” Further information on how to claim this Legacy Gift will be provided soon.
In the lead-up to the free-to-play launch, the seventh season of Foamstars, titled Golden Beats, is now live and will run until 3 October. This season introduces the new Foamstar, Bublo, alongside two new seasonal events. The Ranked Party event offers players the chance to compete solo or in teams across one of seven ranked modes, while the Extreme Party event features a variety of special rules across multiple events.
As with every live service game, there is a season pass. This season pass provides access to Bublo, a Ramzey foam gun skin, and the Coiff Guy character skin as you progress through the levels. For $5.99, players can also opt for the Premium Season Pass, which unlocks all rewards up to the player’s current tier immediately.
