Released at a time when COVID-19 was rife and allowing us to take to the skies and explore our planet, Microsoft Flight Simulator arguably gained new life when the latest instalment, developed by Asobo Studio, was published in 2020. Ready to push PCs and consoles to their limit once more, Asobo Studio and Xbox Game Studios are once again working on the next instalment in the franchise – Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Featured as part of the Xbox Games Showcase this morning, it was confirmed this new instalment will be releasing on the PC and Xbox Series X|S simultaneously on 19 November 2024.
This edition promises to be the most ambitious yet, featuring an extensive fleet of aircraft, comprehensive airport and air traffic representations, and their “most visually stunning rendition of Earth ever created”. The new simulator claims to leverage advanced technologies in simulation, cloud computing, machine learning, graphics, and gaming. Beyond just flying aircraft, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 aims to fulfil simmers’ aspirations of an aviation career.
Players will be able to seek out careers in a number of different fields including aerial firefighting, search and rescue operations, commercial flights, remote cargo operations, VIP charter services, and air racing.
The big question… will we see some meme-worthy landmarks, such as the Essendon Obelisk, once more?
