Baladins, a cooperative fantasy game inspired by tabletop RPGs, developed by Seed by Seed and published by Armor Games Studios, is confirmed to be released on the PC via Steam the week after next, on 15 May 2024. Versions for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 and 4 are planned for a later release.
In Baladins, players can select from five unique classes—Cook, Pyro, Dancer, Luxomancer, and Bard—to navigate the narrative-driven rather than combat-driven adventure within the magical world of Gatherac. The game supports both solo and multiplayer modes, with options for local and online co-op, allowing up to four players.
The gameplay of Baladins centers around choice-based dialogue and dice rolls which influence the unfolding of the story. Players’ decisions throughout the game lead to various outcomes, ensuring each playthrough is unique. The game is set across four distinct regions of Gatherac—Mouliac, Hortegarde, Mercazon, and Lumensac—with various environments and quirky NPCs to interact with.
Players use action and movement points to explore new areas, complete tasks, and gain experience. After six weeks in-game, the outcome is evaluated by Colobra, a time-eating dragon. If the players’ actions are not deemed satisfactory, they are sent back in time to start over.
Dan McNeely, CEO & Founder of Armor Games Studios, noted that Baladins aims to offer a fresh take on the classic CRPG format, sharing:
With Baladins, we want to provide a whimsical twist on the classic CRPG while making it as accessible as possible to genre newcomers. We encourage players to embark on this approachable and inclusive choose-your–own-story melding time loop mechanics with colorful, fantastical charm.
Baladins will be available in English, French, and Japanese on 15 May 2024, priced at $24.99 USD or local equivalent for the PC.
