Ubisoft and Evil Empire Announce The Rogue Prince of Persia: Early Access Commences in May

During the Triple-I Initiative Livestream earlier today, Ubisoft and partnering studio Evil Empire announced The Rogue Prince of Persia, a 2D action-platforming roguelite game. Not only announcing the game, they also confirmed that the game will be entering Steam Early Access in a month and some change from now, 14 May 2024.

The Rogue Prince of Persia transports players to a fictional version of Ctesiphon, the capital of the Persian Empire, which is under threat from an invading army of possessed soldiers led by the malevolent Hun chief, Nogai. Players take on the role of the Prince, who possesses a mystical bola that resurrects him each time he dies, allowing him to take significant risks to hone his acrobatic and combat skills from a young age, shaping him into a formidable warrior. The game challenges players to navigate different biomes, master new weapons, equip trinkets, upgrade gear at the Oasis, and rally allies to prevent the city’s destruction.

The game emphasizes acrobatics and combat, featuring iconic moves such as the wall run, allowing players to traverse gaps, evade traps, and outmaneuver enemies across procedurally generated levels inspired by Persian architecture. Players will face a variety of enemies, including Huns and creatures corrupted by dark shamanic magic, and environment hazards with a wide range of weapons and equipment to suit different playstyles – hopefully to your advantage.

The Rogue Prince of Persia‘s soundtrack is being produced and composed by ASADI, a Persian-American electronic music producer and performance artist, blends traditional and modern sonorities, seeking to offer rhythm and melodies which support the moves and flow of the Prince.

According to Ubisoft, below outlines how the relationship between themselves and Evil Empire was formed, how the game fares in its early access state, and future aspirations:

Evil Empire studio benefits from a solid experience of 2D action-platforming roguelites. Wanting to start a brand-new project, they approached Ubisoft with their own take on the Prince of Persia brand, well known for its innovative spirit and gameplay masterclass. Ubisoft, as the publisher, and Evil Empire, as the developer, chose to release the game in Early Access on Steam, to work with the community and make the best game possible with the players, using the existing polished heart as a base. As time passes, players can expect new levels, bosses, weapons, enemies and upgrades to arrive, as well as additions based on community feedback. As of now the story has a hard stop in-game, but more will come!
