While there have been a few Xbox first-party games that have come to PlayStation consoles, namely the curious case of DEATHLOOP and Ghostwire: Tokyo due to pre-existing agreements set in stone prior to their acquisition of Bethesda Softworks, Microsoft bringing their major first-party exclusives to other consoles has never really been a core part of the Xbox strategy… at least until 2024. While this is not confirmed for every game, and often would be as part of a timed exclusive from the sounds of things, Xbox has opened the gates for some of their titles to be brought to PlayStation and Nintendo platforms. Today, we have received confirmation of which games these will be:
Pentiment from Obsidian Entertainment. The narrative-adventure game will be coming to the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch… today!
Hi-Fi RUSH from Tango Gameworks / Bethesda Softworks will be coming to the PlayStation 5 from next month. More information HERE.
Grounded from Obsidian Entertainment. The Co-Op survival adventure game will be coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch platforms on 16 April, all of which will be cross-play compatible with the Xbox and PC versions.
Sea of Thieves from RARE. A modern-day Rare game coming to a non-Xbox platform? Those who relish the development team’s Nintendo roots may sigh at the fact it is not coming to the Nintendo Switch, but will be headed to the PlayStation 5 from 30 April 2024. The game will provide cross play support between Xbox, PlayStation and PC players – ensuring a healthy mix of new and experienced players exploring the open maritime world together.
