Indie Platformer ‘Freedom Planet 2’ Launching on Consoles This April

Marvelous Europe has confirmed that GalaxyTrail’s newest indie platformer, Freedom Planet 2, will be releasing digitally on consoles starting 4 April 2024. Planned releases include the Nintendo eShop for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation Store for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, and Xbox Live Marketplace for the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

Following the game’s four playable heroes – Lilac, Carol, Milla, and Neera – the narrative of Freedom Planet 2 follows their efforts to thwart the destructive plans of Merga, an ancient water dragon intent on destroying the moon. You can check them in-action in the new promotional trailer, shared below:

In the years since the events of the original game, our three heroines have refined their signature abilities, making them more formidable than ever before. Take advantage of Lilac’s speed with her Dragon Boost, reach new heights with Carol’s Jump Disc or motorcycle, or take a more measured approach with Milla’s shield. And all-new playable character Neera won’t be left out in the cold, as she can use her powerful Frost Arts to punish foes. Like its predecessor, this high-speed platforming adventure delivers exhilarating momentum-based action, with the developing team seeking to advance the formula with new gameplay systems and enhancements.

A new ‘Boss Rush’ mode, a feature implemented following fan requests, will be available across all console versions of Freedom Planet 2. This mode will also be added to the PC version on the day of the console release. This addition offers players an array of challenges in the in-game Battlesphere, increasing the total to 20 modes and challenges. The ‘Boss Rush’ mode is divided into two segments, each featuring 17 challenging bosses, providing a marathon of speed and skill for players. Players able to best both boss divisions will unlock access to a special in-game VIP room with Easter eggs for dedicated Freedom Planet fans.

The game is set for digital release in Europe and Australia by Marvelous Europe and in North America by XSEED Games. The PC version of Freedom Planet 2, previously released by GalaxyTrail, complements this multi-platform launch, with the aforementioned update.
