Ahead of the game’s release this week on the PlayStation VR2 virtual reality platform for the PlayStation 5, First Contact Entertainment and Sony Interactive Entertainment has shared new information around Firewall Ultra. This information pertains to the Player vs Environment (PvE) game mode ‘Exfil’, described as “one of the biggest evolutions to the Firewall franchise”.
In Exfil, you and up to three other players will set out on missions to secure data on three laptops— a shift from the PvP mode ‘Contracts’ which has a focus on securing data on a single laptop. Each map is designed to accommodate both PvE and PvP game modes so you’re always uncovering new pathways through levels and finding great flanking spots to take out enemies. Being a PvE mode however, this means that the intense firefights without respawns will be complemented by challenging AI foes rather than other players… and the AI doesn’t need to worry about the complications of wearing VR headsets.
For better or worse, Firewall Ultra is being marketed as a ‘live service title’ which claims to be offering “new content such as maps, weapons, and contractors, as well as redesigns for locations like the shooting range and safehouse lobby environment”. Of course, this also means that depending on user uptake, the value in your $59.95AUD – $94.95AUD purchase (depending on your chosen edition) is maintained by how many people actively play the game over time. At the same time though, here’s hoping we can get a fresh new first-person shooter for the PSVR2 that doesn’t cause immense motion sickness.
