Back when a much younger Sam was first getting into gaming, the reason for my purchasing Pokémon Blue was that my local Toy World store was hosting a special one-day event where you could get a Mew. The usual affair at the time, you either bring your game cartridge into the store or buy a new copy there, put it into a machine, and a Mew is in your party.
With the death of my Pokémon Gold cartridge almost a decade ago, this saw my lovingly levelled Mew lost to the ether (and even more tragically, my Flareon named SAMDEF♀). Despite playing every gen of Pokemon game since, I never had the option to add Mew to my party… but this changes over the next month, with a special Mystery Gift distribution taking place for Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet for the Nintendo Switch.
From now until 18 September 2023 at 7.59am PDT, players can add Mew to their team by entering the password GETY0URMEW via the Mystery Gift menu. Do note that the menu does have the capacity for more characters than these ten, however you don’t need to enter anything else. The Mew you receive will have a random Tera Type, with a moveset to match. In my case, I received a Mew with the fire tera element.
But what is Mew without Mewtwo? A special Tera Raid Battle event will take place between 31 August and 17 September, where players can team up to challenge and capture a Mewtwo with the Mightiest Mark.
